The International Academic Seminar to Commemorate the Five Anniversary of the Wenchuan Earthquake Held in Chengdu

On the morning of May 12, 2013, the International Academic Seminar to Commemorate the Five Anniversary of the Wenchuan Earthquake was held in Chengdu. The seminar was organized by the State Key Laboratory of Geo-hazard Prevention and Geo-environment Protection (SKLGP) of Chengdu University of Technology (CUT), with International Association of Engineering Geology and Environment and National Natural Science Foundation of China’s advocacy and support. Over 100 experts and scholars from 15 countries attended the seminar, and discussed the geo-hazard and long-term risk effect in strong earthquake areas.

Vice Chairman Gao Feng said, Sichuan’s geo-hazard is serious, especially induced by earthquake. He hoped the experts and scholars would give long-term concern and help Sichuan to avoid long-term risk in the post-disaster restoration and reconstruction work in Wenchuan and in Lushan.

On behalf of Sichuan Provincial Science and Technology Department (SCSTD), Director-General Peng Yuxing expressed warm congratulations to the seminar. He said, SKLGP is one of the most important research institutions in geo-hazard’s research and prevention in China, has made unremitting efforts to solve the long-term risk in Wenchuan earthquake Post-disaster restoration and reconstruction work and achieved a lot of research results. SCSTD will continue to give supports in research funding and platform construction.

After the opening ceremony, Huang Runqiu, vice chairman of Sichuan Provincial People's Political Consultative Conference, vice president of CUT and director of SKLGP, delivered a theme report entitled “After 5 years, What have we learned from Wenchuan earthquake?”.
